- What Prohibited Technologies are not allowed to be used?
The University of Florida is taking steps to comply with the State University System Board of Governors Emergency Regulation 3.0075 – Security of Data and Related Information Technology Resources.
This regulation requires institutions to remove technologies published in the State University System (SUS) Prohibited Technologies List from any university-owned device and to block network traffic associated with these technologies. As of April 4, 2023, the list includes:

- How can I find out which apps are not allowed to be used at the University of Florida?
The University of Florida continuously evaluates technology vendors and software products and services and maintains a list of approved technologies on UF’s Fast Path Solutions website. High-risk software and services that present an unacceptable level of cybersecurity risk to the university are listed as ‘not permitted for use.’
- What is the expectation regarding use of Prohibited Technologies at the University of Florida?
Effective immediately, installation or use of the above-mentioned prohibited technologies on any university-owned device, network, or to conduct any university business, including marketing and advertising, is prohibited. If you have installed any of these prohibited technologies on a university-owned mobile device or computer, you are required to remove it and cease using it.
- Can I still use Prohibited Technologies on my personal devices?
The restriction on use of prohibited technologies on UF-owned devices and networks does not extend to personal use, on personal devices, without use of the university network. However, you may not use a personal device and data plan to use Prohibited Technologies in order to conduct UF business.
The university strongly recommends that everyone discontinue the use of these prohibited technologies and remove the apps from their personal devices. Taking this action will help protect your personal information as well as university data.
- What should we do about university-affiliated TikTok accounts?
UF faculty, staff and students who manage UF-affiliated TikTok accounts must cease content creation, engagement and general use of these accounts. Conducting any university business, including marketing and advertising, is not permitted.
Before removing the app and discontinuing activity, it’s best to download your TikTok archive. UF accounts do not need to be deleted, but management of these is prohibited. Accounts can remain while inactive to retain the @handle and content, or deactivation is also an option. Consider shifting related content efforts to Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts or other platforms with similar audiences. Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have questions.
