We know what you’re thinking, but we’re talking about a different kind of tailgate!
Tailgating is when a social engineer tries to gain access to a physical location by tricking authorized persons into letting them in.
Common techniques include:
Following someone in |
Pretending to have a delivery |
Carrying large items |
Claiming to have forgotten their ID |
Claiming an employee invited them |
Pretending to be a custodian |
If you see any of these, use your best judgement. For instance, it’s OK to hold the door for a known neighbor in your dorm. However, if you do not know someone who is attempting to enter a secured area, avoid contact and use a different entrance, if possible.
